Trade Apprentice Bricklayer Case Study

Name: Alexander Brennan
Age: 21
From: Castlemilk
Apprenticeship Programme: Apprentice Plumber

Alexander is now in the final year of his apprenticeship with CCG and will soon be graduating. Alexander tells us what he has most enjoyed is the experience he has gained and being able to learn the trade and the sense of achievement that he can now complete a job by himself.

Alexander has also gained numerous skills from his apprenticeship: “The biggest skills I have learned are communication skills. Before the apprenticeship, I wasn’t as confident but by being involved in lots of different sites and different people you learn to listen as well as speaking up if you have issues. It has been brilliant; I just need to see the finish line now”.

Alexander’s first site was located in Castlemilk at the award-winning Dougrie Drive which was constructed on behalf of GHA:

“I am from Castlemilk – I only live 5 minutes from that site so it was amazing to be involved in something in my local town.

“I am now based at CCG Homes’ Riverford Gardens and whilst this development is a little bit different to others that I have worked on because people are actually buying homes, you can still see the quality standards across other projects which says a lot about CCG – with every job that you do, you should always give it 100%”.

Over the next few months, Alexander is looking forward to graduating and gaining his qualification that he has worked so hard to achieve over the last 4 years. His advice:

“Just get stuck in and take everything you can from it. You don’t want to finish an apprenticeship and go to a job and be a bit unsure about some aspects. It’s important to listen and if you do that, you will succeed”.
