St. Nicholas Court is located in the town centre of Leith and was delivered on behalf of Port of Leith Housing Association. The project involved a four-storey extension to an existing complex comprising eight one bedroom flats delivered by traditional construction methods.
A sun lounge and guest bedroom, plus additional landscaping – including allotment plots for the residents to grow their own fruit, vegetables, and flowers – have also been created to encourage leisurely activity amongst the elderly residents.
Alongside the new build extension, the heating system and bathrooms were also upgraded in the original 35-bedroom development. Services were upgraded to improve environmental performance, replacing the original systems that were 34 years old.
CCG is a firm believer in contributing to the local communities in which we operate by providing employment and training opportunities, work placements, educational tours and donating to local charities. The first of which is our approach to employment and as a direct result of this project, CCG was able to employ one new entrant and offer four work placements. The new entrant, Alex Masalov, undertook a 6-week work placement at Leith Fort, a residential development that is also located in Edinburgh, and due to the success of his time on site, he was offered a full-time position with the Construction division.
A total of four work placements were delivered with three undertaken by young people living within 5 miles of the site. CCG also offered curriculum support to Edinburgh Napier University and donated to the St Nicholas Court Social fund which provided fish suppers for 41 of the POLHA tenants.
St. Nicholas Court was completed in June 2017.
