THE KELVINGROVE, BANDSTAND

The Kelvingrove Bandstand, located on the west bank of the River Kelvin in Glasgow’s Kelvingrove Park, is one of Glasgow’s most popular landmarks.

Working with the Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, CCG undertook the upgrade and enhancement of the venue after 15 years of closure with the works commissioned as part of Glasgow Life’s commitment to improving civic infrastructure as part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Now used as a gig venue for some of the world’s biggest artists, up to 2500 people can now attend with the improvement of access to the amphitheatre as a whole, refurbishment of the seating at the lower level and the introduction of new seating to the rear terraces enabling able-bodied and disability access. A cross-aisle was also introduced to break up the body of the audience for larger and smaller events whilst providing space for a control position to facilitate productions.

The Bandstand building itself underwent a programme of conservation and repair work with the rebuilding of the stage platform and the addition of two small extensions to the rear, providing support accommodation for performance use and welfare facilities.
