Building Futures

POWDERHALL, EDINBURGH

Powderhall is set to become the City of Edinburgh Council’s first Passivhaus-certified development.

Located in Broughton, plans were approved to regenerate the site (which once belonged to bowling greens) in November 2021 with the creation of 27 one and two-bedroom flats for the elderly as well as a 128-space early learning centre.

The single, ‘intergenerational’ building is a first for the local authority, helping to serve 2-5-year-olds as well as the local St Mark’s Primary School as well as providing much-needed accommodation for the elderly in the form of fully accessible and wheelchair adapted properties. The enhanced, Passivhaus standard of build will also be the first as an extension of the city’s transition towards becoming net zero by 2030.

Designed by Collective Architecture, CCG is set to formally commence construction in summer-2022.
