NEW GORBALS MULTI-STOREYS, GLASGOW

Working on behalf of New Gorbals Housing Association, CCG supplied and installed a total of 288, enhanced door sets for a planned renewals programme in Glasgow’s Southside.

Situated on Waddell Court in the Gorbals near the banks of the River Clyde, three styles of enhanced, fire-rated and fire-certified doors were installed from the first floor upwards in two, 14-storey blocks for New Gorbals Housing Association.

Manufactured by CCG using engineered timber, the common corridor door screens, storeroom access doors, and common doors located at each stairwell are each fully fire-rated for up to 60 minutes which means, in the event of an emergency, the doors can help prevent the spread of fire and smoke in the building for the 1-hour duration. This is a result of the inherent properties of engineered timber itself, which acts as a natural firebreak, as well as the use of incumbents which are applied within the door frame. An automatic closing system also ensures that the doors are always shut after being opened which is again a key safety feature that supports safe passage for residents and emergency services.

The glazed units, along with all ironmongery and paintwork, are all pre-applied prior to being installed on-site. Here, they are met by CCG’s site team who complete the full design, supply, and fit service; this chain of responsibility helps CCG to deliver right-first-time quality standards and value as well as ensuring an efficient installation process that minimises the impact on residents.
