Building Futures

WEST DUNBARTONSHIRE COUNCIL VARIOUS

West Dunbartonshire Council is embarked upon one of Scotland’s most ambitious housebuilding programmes with CCG working as a strategic delivery partner.

CCG was appointed by the Local Authority in 2018, after having successfully delivered a series of developments in Clydebank and Bruce Hill, to undertake the delivery of four projects that form part of a strategic housebuilding partnership. This began in 2019 at the former St Andrew’s High School, a 126 one, two, three and four-bedroom home development that comprises a mix of flats and house types including specially designed wheelchair-adapted bungalows., followed by the former Aitkenbar and Haldane Primary School sites (112 homes in total), located in Balloch and Dumbarton respectively.

All of the homes have been constructed to the Council’s own design guide which promotes space, accessibility and improved energy performance with this approach taken a step further at Creveul Court in Alexandria.

Once belonging to commercial post-war housing, works to transform the site into an innovative amenity housing development began in late-2019 with the site now belonging to 22 homes including one and two-bedroom apartments and one-bedroom bungalows.

The project, designed by Anderson Bell + Christie, is the first of its kind to have been delivered to the West Dunbartonshire Council Dementia Design Guide, a framework that integrates cognitive design features within the development for residents who may be inflicted with dementia later in life, thus, providing them with a home that can support them for a longer period of time. This includes specific colour schemes and bespoke signage as well as a fully DDA-compliant, semi-private courtyard located at the centre of the masterplan.

All of the homes constructed as part of the WDC/CCG partnership have been delivered using offsite Modern Methods of Construction and CCG’s ‘iQ’ Timber System as well as utilising further integrated services such as CCG-manufactured internal and external door sets, flooring supply and plumbing.
