Building Futures

BURNS ROAD, CUMBERNAULD

Burns Road is the culmination of 10 years of regeneration in Cumbernauld Town Centre where 12 multi-storey blocks have been replaced with 588 new build affordable homes.

Completed by CCG in January 2023 on behalf of Sanctuary Scotland, the development is located within the suburban area known as Kildrum and previously included three high-rise blocks with a multi-storey car park.

Burns Road provides unique architectural forms with a series of flatted blocks reaching six stories delivering 131, one, two and three-bedroom affordable flats. A signature curved block features deck access, a design that mirrors the curved boundary to the north of the site, that offers unparalleled views across the town and towards the Campsie Fells.

Key to the masterplan, designed by Collective Architecture, was the creation of useable amenity space and new pedestrian & cycle routes to support connectivity and wider community integration with the existing infrastructure surrounding the development. Pathways and resident spaces have also been enhanced with sculptures as part of the placemaking agenda which were created by artist Laura Aldrige and the world-renowned, Andy Scott.

CCG led the construction of the build using the ‘iQ’ Timber System, our enhanced closed panel timber frame solution. The System, which was also integrated with CCG’s enhanced timber door sets, was used to construct the blocks in their entirety or, in the case of the curved feature block, integrated within a structural steel superstructure.

CCG Group members Arc-Tech (Scotland) and Arc-Tech MU were also responsible for the installation of Renewable Services and Multi-utility Services respectively.

A broad range of community benefit initiatives were delivered as a result of the development including six new jobs, seven trade apprenticeships and engagement with local colleges and schools as well as a donation of £135,000 to locally-based projects.
