The scope of works undertaken by CCG involved the replacing of doors throughout the building on behalf of South Lanarkshire Council which included all flat entrance doors and common doors (corridors and stairwells) as well as storage cupboards on each floor of the 12-storey block.
Each door, manufactured by CCG, is fully fire-rated and certified to a 60-minute rating of performance and is known as an ‘FD60 Door’. This means in the event of an emergency within the building, each door, which is manufactured using solid timber, can resist the effects of the fire for a 1-hour duration, thus mitigating the passage of fire and, crucially, preventing it from reaching residents who may otherwise be unable to escape.
A self-closing mechanism is installed on each door and this ensures that once it is opened, it will always close. Intumescent seals are also utilised to prevent the passage of smoke between the door itself and the frame.
All of the doors were manufactured entirely, including the installation of all ironmongery, within one mile of the contract at CCG’s advanced factory premises in the Clydesmill Industrial Estate in Cambuslang. Semi-automated production processes combine to ensure quality and consistency in the application of items such as paint and ironmongery whilst the on-site installation process is then undertaken by CCG Asset Management.
