QUARRY KNOWE COURT, AUCHINLECK

Quarry Knowe Court is an assisted living development that exemplifies CCG and East Ayrshire Council’s commitment to providing inclusive housing solutions for those with additional support needs.

Located in Auchinleck, the development comprises seven one-bedroom self-contained apartments designed specifically to cater to tenants with additional support needs and is the third such project – and the second delivered by CCG –  within the local authority since 2018.

Three fully adapted dwellings are provided for wheelchair users whilst an eighth unit is utilised by care staff whom provide 24/7 services from an on-site office facility. The concept has been developed with the intent to provide people with additional needs a level of independence that may otherwise not have been possible in their previous residence.

A comfortable, safe and accessible environment designed by MAST Architects, reaches two storeys and adopts a simple layout, utilising a single stair core, to aid tenants and staff moving around the building. An accessible, off-street entrance is provided alongside a concealed courtyard featuring soft landscaping, planting, contemporary seating and play equipment.

Quarry Knowe adheres to the Housing for Varying Needs standard, ensuring that all homes cater to the specific requirements of the tenants. The development was constructed entirely using CCG’s ‘iQ’ Timber System and is integrated with enhanced timber door sets, including flat entrance and circulation common doors, also manufactured by CCG.

Solar PV panels and sprinkler systems were installed by CCG Group member, Arc-Tech (Scotland).

A range of community benefit initiatives were delivered as a result of the development. These included the creation of two new jobs within the KA18 and KA4 postcodes, including one position filled by an individual transitioning from full-time education; engagement with local schools and a £2,200 financial donation to localised projects.
