NETHAN STREET, GLASGOW

Nethan Street is the latest phase of regeneration in Govan that has brought 82, much-needed homes to a vibrant Glasgow community.

Once famous for a bustling shipbuilding industry, Govan is now home to a community that is being reinvigorated with the creation of modern, energy-efficient homes. Nethan Street has now reinstated a prominent frontage to the busy Harmony Row/ Golspie Street, replacing a derelict site with a stunning mix of 70, one and two-bedroom flats, and 12, two and three-bedroom, two-storey houses for social rent on behalf of Elderpark Housing.

The masterplan, designed by MAST Architects, consists of a single flatted block ranging from 3-5 storeys with an interesting mix of buff brick and copper cladding to the elevations. Innovatively designed “Sun Spaces”, are provided to all of the dwellings, and further promotes a sense of character within the semi-private courtyard of the development, whilst each home enjoys a private, rear garden with pedestrian through-routes also supporting wider community integration.

All homes were designed to Housing for Varying Needs with up to four dwellings created to a full, wheelchair-accessible standard.

CCG’s iQ Timber System was utilised entirely for the creation of the low-rise housing whilst our enhanced wall panels were used as an infill to the steel superstructure for the flatted block. CCG Manufacturing also designed and supplied all internal, flat entrance and common door sets.

As an extension of CCG’s involvement in the development, which also included the restoration and conversion of the adjacent (former) Hills Trust Primary School, a series of community benefit initiatives were delivered including:

  • 6 new jobs
  • 4 trade apprenticeships, including a Govan (Crossloan Road resident)
  • 12 work placements
  • Site tours and school engagement with local colleges
  • £10,000 donation to Elderpark Housing to be distributed to locally-based projects

CCG officially handed over Nethan Street in April 2021.
